ESV B-Ionic Calcium Buffer System — 2 Gallon Unit
Two components. One goal: consistent calcium and alkalinity.
ESV B-Ionic Calcium Buffer System provides calcium and carbonate alkalinity through two complementary liquid components. Used in equal amounts as directed, it offers a practical approach to daily reef supplementation while helping maintain the aquarium’s inorganic ionic balance.
The formula also supplies major, minor and trace elements to help replace ions lost through aquarium processes, including protein skimming.
Why choose B-Ionic?
- Two-part supplementation for calcium and alkalinity.
- Liquid dosing once properly prepared.
- Major, minor and trace elements included in the formulation.
- A routine you can adjust around your aquarium’s measured consumption.
The Francois Neo approach
For me, supplementation starts with understanding what your aquarium consumes. A dosing recommendation is a starting point—not a number to follow indefinitely.
Track alkalinity consistently, check calcium regularly, and adjust gradually. Your coral population, growth and maintenance routine will influence demand. The objective is a stable aquarium, with a dosing routine you understand and can maintain.

How to use
The recommended starting dose is 1 mL of each component per 4 US gallons of aquarium capacity per day.
Add the components separately according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Do not mix the two components together before dosing.
Test calcium and alkalinity frequently while establishing your routine. Adjust the daily dose based on measured consumption and stability, following the product label.

Package contents
- 1 × Component No. 1 — Alkalinity, 1 gallon
- 1 × Component No. 2 — Calcium, 1 gallon
Total package size: 2 gallons across two separate containers.
Important: check preparation instructions
Some B-Ionic sizes are supplied as concentrates in partially filled containers. These require dilution with RO/DI water to the indicated fill line before use.
Concentrate can form a clear or white solid mass. Follow the label’s dilution and mixing instructions, and allow the material to dissolve completely before dosing.
Check your specific package label: preparation requirements differ between formats.
