Mandarin Dragonet Pair — One Male & One Female

Bring the intricate colors and fascinating movements of Synchiropus splendidus to your reef with a male-and-female selection. Each order contains two fish: one male and one female. The displayed price is for both fish.

François Neo’s advice

My recommendation: plan the food supply for two Mandarins before choosing a pair. A mature reef, extensive foraging surfaces and a dependable supply of copepods matter more than simply having enough swimming space. Check that both fish feed well and maintain good body condition.

What “pair” means

This listing specifies one male and one female. It does not promise an established bonded pair, spawning behavior or breeding success. Compatibility must be assessed, and the fish should be monitored after introduction. Avoid adding them to an aquarium that already contains another male Mandarin.

Care at a glance

  • Species: Synchiropus splendidus, family Callionymidae.
  • Quantity: Two fish per order — one male and one female.
  • Adult size: Approximately 3–4 inches (8–10 cm) per fish.
  • Experience: Advanced feeding care, particularly with wild-caught fish.
  • Our recommendation: A spacious, mature reef capable of sustaining two continuous microfauna feeders. Confirm your aquarium’s suitability with us before ordering.
  • Temperament: Peaceful toward suitable tankmates; avoid aggressive fish and heavy competition for copepods.
  • Reef compatibility: Generally suitable with corals and larger ornamental invertebrates.

Feeding two Mandarins

Provide reliable access to appropriate small live prey. Offer suitable fine frozen foods when accepted and observe each fish eating. Prepared-food acceptance must be confirmed for each specimen; captive-bred origin is not implied by this listing. Monitor both fish’s body condition and replenish live foods as needed.

Sizes & ordering

Select S, M or L for the pair’s size grade. The male and female may differ in length; ask for individual measurements and current feeding responses. Inventory is counted in pairs: quantity 1 means two fish.

The image is representative of the species; actual fish and coloration will vary. Male/female selection is confirmed for the fish supplied.
