OCTO VarioS 10 — Return flow for demanding plumbing

The pressure-rated VarioS 10 is built for higher-head installations and demanding return circuits. Suitable for marine and freshwater use, with submerged or external installation following the supplied instructions.

I choose a return pump by the flow it can deliver through the actual installation. Include lift height, pipe diameter, bends and manifold outlets in the calculation, then check the pump curve. Keep sump turnover separate from the circulation your corals need inside the display.

Technical specifications

Ratings follow the Reef Octopus manufacturer technical table. Check the supplied US fittings before cutting pipe; regional adapters and published ratings may differ. Maximum flow and maximum head describe separate operating points.

Control and construction

• Digital controller with 90 speed settings and wattage / RPM display.
• 15- or 60-minute feed pause.
• 0–10 V input for compatible external aquarium control.
• Ceramic shaft and bearings; adjustable outlet orientation.
• Float-switch connection available; confirm the float-switch accessory supplied with your package.

What comes with the pump

Pump, controller, power supply, mounting hardware and plumbing connections. The manufacturer lists the float switch as a separate accessory; package contents should be confirmed before ordering.

Installation considerations

Use the VarioS 10 performance curve to assess higher lift heights and restrictive plumbing. Its pressure rating does not guarantee the required flow for every installation. Allow room for fittings, removal and impeller cleaning. Keep the controller and power supply dry, and test both drain-down and restart after installation.
