OCTO VarioS 2 — Controllable return flow for your aquarium

The VarioS 2 is a variable-speed DC pump for sump returns and circulation circuits. Suitable for marine and freshwater use, with submerged or external installation following the supplied instructions.

I choose a return pump by the flow it can deliver through the actual installation. Include lift height, pipe diameter, bends and manifold outlets in the calculation, then check the pump curve. Keep sump turnover separate from the circulation your corals need inside the display.

Technical specifications

Ratings follow the Reef Octopus manufacturer technical table. Check the supplied US fittings before cutting pipe; regional adapters and published ratings may differ. Maximum flow and maximum head describe separate operating points.

• Controller with five selectable speed settings.

• 0–10 V input for compatible external aquarium control.
• Ceramic shaft and bearings; adjustable outlet orientation.

What comes with the pump

Pump, controller, power supply, mounting hardware and plumbing connections. The standard package also includes a float switch, intake screen and hose-barb adapter.

Installation considerations

The VarioS 2 is not pressure-rated. Reef Octopus excludes floor-to-floor pumping and applications such as Beckett or downdraft skimmer feeds requiring sustained pressure. Allow room for fittings, removal and impeller cleaning. Keep the controller and power supply dry, and test both drain-down and restart after installation.
